Day Two Hundred Eleven

Ah! And now we are officially caught up here at The Ink Drop...

After spending the past week in the dry, cool mountain air, hopping out of the car and into the thick, soupy, hot, sticky, oppressive mess that is Kansas air was quite the shock.

Today’s word served to just rub it in that it won’t be getting cool (or even bearable) here for at least a couple of months.

Oc-to-ber n. The 10th month of the calendar year, having 31 days.

I decided to embrace the fall, although I won’t get to experience it’s magnificence for a while.

I hadn’t used pastels in...whew...I’m not even sure how long. Finding a box of them on my desk, I decided to grab ‘em and incorporate a bit of color into a piece for once.

I like this one.

Too bad it’ll be so long before I find this scene outside my window.

Evening.

Day Two Hundred Ten

Phew!

Here we go...

This little word cracked me up. Not really because it’s all that interesting (the opposite, really) but because of the funny little character that jumped into my head.

den-im n. A strong, twilled cotton used for jeans, overalls, and work clothes.

We’d had a conversation a few days prior about overalls. Who could pull them off, if they were even worth wearing...etc. Anyway, this word brought to mind an overly skinny little hipster...bringing back the overalls.

I’ll leave it up to you, reader/s, to decide if she can work it or not. Personally, I adore the absurdity of it all.

Day Two Hundred Nine

Home, home at last.
I kind of missed you, Kansas. (aside from your abundance of bugs and soup-for-air)
After a couple days on the road, I can safely say I won’t be getting in a car or coming within 500 feet of a small child for at least two months.

This will be the first of three posts for this evening (catching up), and was created on the 3rd of July.

bash-ful adj. Socially shy.

I have always loved this word-it brings to mind a sort of wide-eyed, innocent character. I decided to toss out that sort of overused image in favor of something a little different.

This character, while appearing bashful in posture, has a little more to her, I think. She seems a bit detached, a bit too-cool; a bit watchful. While she could be said to be bashful, she might be anything but.

Day Two Hundred Seven

I'd like to start off this post by saying that we are hitting the road at about 4 in the morning, and will be traveling for a few days. The art will, of course, continue as normal...but I can't say that the posts will. I will update whenever possible, but, if this blog goes dark for a few days, rest assured that this project has not screeched to a halt.

We attended about 15 minutes of a bluegrass festival today outside of Chico...stopped for some seriously awesome, classic and simple burgers at Mark's..

So, today's word made me think of our drives up into the mountains during this trip...and my age-old response to the chaos. Something about this family demands that each and every time we get in the car, each person must roll down their window all the way (highways and dirt roads included) and do their best to be as loud as possible. Coupled with very, very bumpy mountain roads, this can make escaping from this...uh...scene rather difficult.

bumpy adj. Being uneven; having ups and downs.

I really liked the way that this word applied to this trip (and growing up with four brothers) both literally and figuratively. I decided to illustrate, for today's piece, the car ride through Yellowstone.

Hah! I'm sure I'll both be amused and filled with regret as I remember the family vacations I spent trying to escape.

Goodbye for now (I hope to write tomorrow night...we'll see.)

Day Two Hundred Six

Well, two really...way too strong cups of coffee later...I think it's time to hammer out this post.
We stayed in today...watched Star Wars and stared at the mountains through the window. Ah, we certainly are lame.

I decided to go pretty creepy with today's word. It wasn't a word that I really think is all that interesting, so I decided to twist it a little.

a-mi-a-ble adj. Friendly and pleasant.

See? Boring.. I had originally intended to illustrate a cute little character with a giant, face-wide smile. Then that got me thinking...and I decided to weird it out a bit.

Eh. I have to stop looking at this...he's freaking me out.

Day Two Hundred Five

Oh boy...

Another gorgeous day of hiking and trying to avoid getting mauled by bears.

Now, today's word seemed pretty boring by itself, so I decided to add a little background to it.

field n. (I refuse to type out this whole stupid definition this late at night. also, i'm grumpy.)

So, when I was very little, our house in New Mexico backed up on a large field. I have a very distinct memory of climbing over the fence with the help of my older brother and running through the field to where a giant hot air balloon had landed. I remember realizing just how gigantic the balloon material was as it laid across the ground before us. Next to green chile and a lack of humidity, hot air balloons are one of the things I miss most about living in NM.

Have a good night.

Day Two Hundred Four

Five days, really, into it and I still cannot believe we've reached the 200's here at The Ink Drop. Sitting here playing my first game of Monopoly in years..I now remember why I stopped playing...but it's just so pointlessly fun.

I wasn't quite sure what to really do with today's word...so I began by simply illustrating it literally and worked outward from there.

I'm not sure why Blogger didn't post this for you last night...or why it decided to delete half of the draft it had saved...grr!! Too late for that now..
